This program is designed for children aged 5 - 6 to introduce and familiarize them with the water environment. The course is taught using our sturdy and stable fleet of Optimist Prams. A great Introduction to sailing starts HERE! Learn the ropes of sailing from our nationally certified coaches who provide a fun experience on and off the water. In this course you will learn to sail an Opti, the most popular youth sailboat in the world learning skills such as safety, rigging, steering, and seamanship. Both on and off the water there will be plenty of learning and games. If you have never sailed before or haven't for a couple of years, this is the course you sign up for.

Start your sailing education HERE! This is a comprehensive first look at what it means to sail; our nationally certified coaches will lead you through a week full of sailing and fun! Get started on developing the skills to get your first CANSail certificate. In this course you will sail a 2 person dinghy called the C420, a very popular youth racing design. It offers a great foundation for many sailing skills such as safety, crewing, rigging, steering, and seamanship! If you have never sailed before, or haven't for a long time, this is the course to register for.

This program is designed for ages 7 - 12 with their CANSail 1.

After completing a week of CANSail Fun, level up your skills by taking CANSail 2! This course takes you through the next stages of the sailing curriculum to develop a better understanding of sailing independently. Our coaches will take you through Sail Canada accredited advanced Optimist sailing course. This course should be taken after you have already achieved your CANSail 1 certificate. This course has a pre-requisite for recent CANSail 1 certification or a week of CANSail Fun registration. You don't have to register with a sailing partner, we will pair you with someone.

This program is designed for people 18+ with little or no previous sailing experience. CanSail 1 curriculum will be taught aboard the Club 420 dinghies. The course will run July 17-19.

July 18 & 19 9am - 5pm (1 hour lunch break). Please bring your lunch for both days.

The Laser is a highly popular dinghy designed to be sailed single-handed. The Laser is robust and simple to rig and sail, often for competitive racing.

This program is designed for people 18+ with CANSail 1 (or a sailor close to achieving it). CANSail 2 curriculum will be taught aboard Laser dinghies .The course runs every Monday in July from 6pm-9pm for four sessions

This program is designed for people 18+ with CANSail 2 (or a sailor close to achieving it). CANSail 3 curriculum will be taught aboard Laser dinghies. The course runs every Monday in August from 6pm-9pm for four sessions

August 3, 10, 17, and 24

To be a member of the Youth Sailing Team, also known as the Youth Race Team, the sailor must be a member of the club. Junior memberships are available, which are the most economical way to join the team, and Family memberships are available too. The Calgary Yacht Club is committed to the development of young sailors, the Club runs a comprehensive program led by qualified and dedicated coaches where the focus is on participation and fun as much as it is on skill development and race training. This program aims to develop lifelong sailors and a love of sport.

This fee is for sailors on the Youth Race Team that are using club boats for the 2026 season. When boats are being used they require maintenance and this fee helps cover those cost.

There will be 3 bottle drive for the Youth Race Team, April 11, May 9, and July 4. These bottle drives are important and help cover the cost for traveling to regatta. This year we will be collecting a fundraising deposit and if you show up and help fundraise $150 worth of bottle you will get your deposit back at the end of the season.
